The Personal History and Experience of David Copperfield The Young

The Personal History and Experience of David Copperfield The Young

By: Charles Dickens

I do not find it easy to get sufficiently far away from this book, in the first sensation of having finished it, to refer to it with the composure which this formal heading would seem to require. Y interest in it, it is so recent and strong; and my mind is so divided between pleasure and regret pleasure in the achievement of a laong design, regret in the separation from many companions – that I am in danger of wearying the reader whom I love, with personal confidences, and private emotions. Beside which, all that I could say of the story, to any purpose, I have endeavoured to say in it. [download]

A Beginner’s Guide To The World Economy

A Beginner’s Guide To The World Economy

By: Randy Charles Epping

If economists want to be understood, let them use plainer word….(and) address those words less to politicians and more to everybody else. Politicians care about what voters think, especially voters in blocks, and not a shred about what economists think. Talking to politicians about economics is therefore a waste of time. The only way to make governments behave as if they were economically literate is to confront them with electorates that are. [download]

The Law and Economics of Corporate Governance

The Law and Economics of Corporate Governance

Edited By: Alessio M. Pacces

This book includes the proceedings of the conference on ‘Changing Perspectives on Corporate Law and Economics’, held in Rotterdam on 6 November 2008 in honour of one of the founders of the economic analysis of law, Guido Calabresi. The collection is made up of six main contributions and six shorter comments by the speakers who acted as discussants. The subject matter of the book corporate governance is one of the most heated topics in the economic analysis of law. In the aftermath of the largest global fi nancial crisis after the 1930s, the negative consequences of which we are still experiencing, the connection between law and corporate fi nance has been evident from the news. More generally, this connection is extremely important for the governance of enterprises, which aff ects not only the fi nancial markets, but also the effi ciency of production, economic growth, and the overall well being of our societies. Macroeconomic–Theory and Its Failings

Macroeconomic–Theory and Its Failings

Edited By: Steven Kates

This is a book about the global fi nancial crisis and the economic theories that have been used fi rst to understand its causes and thereafter to contain the damage it has brought. But it is more than that. It is a book about the inadequacies of the economic theories that are being used to deal with the present global economic meltdown. The one and only unifying feature of the articles collected together within these covers is that each and every one of the authors disagrees with the standard mainstream neoclassical macroeconomic models that have been applied in attempting to comprehend what has gone on and then, more importantly, have been used to devise policies to bring this recession to an end. This book is thus about the usefulness or otherwise of existing textbook economics to deal with the present crisis. But while all disagree with the standard mainstream model, it should also be understood that the various authors in this collection do not necessarily agree with each other. [download]

The Principles of Macroeconomics

The Principles of Macroeconomics

The word economy comes from the Greek word for “one who manages a household.” At first, this origin might seem peculiar. But, in fact, household and economies have much in common. A household faces many decision. It must decide which members of the household do which tasks and what each member gets in return: Who cooks dinner? Who does the laundry? Who gets the extra dessert at dinner? Who gets to choose what TV show to watch? In shor, the household must allocate its scarce resource among its various members, taking into account each member’s abilities, efforts, and desires. [download]
