Cassidy waited. Mrs. Sommerson tossed a third rejected dress into her arms. “Simply won’t do,” the woman muttered and scowled at a midnight-blue linen. After a moment’s consideration this, too, was dumped into the pile over Cassidy’s arms. Valiantly Cassidy held on to her patience. After three months as a sales clerk in The Best Boutique, she felt she’d learned patience, but it hadn’t been easy. Dutifully she followed the solid bulk of Mrs. Sommerson to another display of dresses. After twenty-seven minutes of standing around like a clothes rack, Cassidy thought, shifting the weight on her arms, her hard-earned patience was sorely strained. “I’ll try these,” Mrs. Sommerson finally announced and marched back to the changing room.
