From Chaos to Restoration

It is no secret that in recent years biblical scholars have reinstated apocalyptic as a major force in the development of Biblical Theology. Concomitant with this renaissance of interest in all things apocalyptic has been the assertion that the origin of apocalyptic is not to be found in extra-biblical realms, but rather in the Old Testament itself, and particularly in the area of prophetic eschatology. To be more precise, it has become the communis opinio that the initial transformation of prophetic eschatology into what would eventually become full-blown apocalyptic is to be found in Isaiah 24-27, the so-called Isaianic apocalypse, and a few other passages.
